Monthly Meeting– June 4, 2014

 

  1. Welcome – Danny Bouska opened the meeting at 7:18 PM with a welcome to guests and members.  Approximately 33 people were in attendance.
  1. Recognition of Guests – Danny Barentine recognized three guests:  David Stone, Jason and Megan Maheny.
  1. Newsletter Questions – Kevin Schuck asked 5 questions with answers contained within the June Newsletter.  A 50/50 raffle ticket was awarded to the first person with the correct answer to each question.
  1. Newsletter Secret Phrase:  Jay Delmar won with his entry of “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” By Mae West.
  1. Board Member Reports
    1. Sandra Playle, Secretary:  Reading of the Minutes – Scott Playle moved that the minutes be accepted as presented, seconded by Kelly Barentine.  Motion carried.
    2. Danny Barentine, Vice President: Membership Report - Danny Barentine reported that we currently have 87 members.
    3. Kevin Schuck, Treasurer:
  1. i.     Financial Status – Kevin made a deposit of $644, which includes $150 in dues (2 new members, 2 renewals), $42.50 in 50/50 sales, $1.50 in non-wear fines, and $450 in deposits for the September rig dive trip.  The new balance is $3,283.35
    1. Social Committee
  1. i.     Kelly Barentine reported that 22 people attended the May Restaurant of the Month at Chef Point in Watauga.  The food was good, although the service was slow.
  1. ii.     Kelly Barentine reported that the June social outing will be on Saturday, June 7 at the Martin House Brewery in Ft. Worth from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  There is a $10 entrance fee per person.  Restaurant of the month will be afterward at Primos off Hulen in Ft. Worth at 5:30 p.m.  Primo’s is BYOB, and Kelly needs a count of who will be attending by Friday night.
  1. Tina Caron did a presentation on Diving in Anilao Philippines.
  1. Mark Stonebridge did a last call for 50/50 raffle tickets.

    1. Activities:
  1. i.     May 23-26 (Memorial Day) – Balmorhea State Park – Steve Ogden reported that 14 people attended.  The weather was unusually cool with a high temperature of 87 degrees, with rain and hail Saturday evening.  People were spread out with some camping and others in hotels.  The diving was very good, including the underwater checkers tournament, with one game lasting almost an hour.  The star party Saturday night at the observatory was not as good as expected, with the meteor shower fizzling out.
  1. ii.     June 1 – NTSRA Fun Dive – Danny Bouska thanked Scott, Kevin and Alan for manning the Rebel booth.  A fair number of rebels turned out for the diving, and a total of 70 people participated in the underwater scavenger hunt.
  1. iii.     June 21 – Mid-Year Outing – This will be held at Clear Springs Scuba Park.  Becky Marak is selling raffle tickets for the mid-year raffle.  A special ticket for members only will be included for any member that buys raffle tickets.  The food will be catered by Soulman’s Barbeque, but members are asked to bring desserts and their own drinks.  Admission has been discounted, and will be $15/diver and $10/non-diver.  There is a sign-up sheet in the back.
  1. iv.     June 28 – July 5 – Utila, Honduras – Danny Bouska reported that 18 people are going.
  1. v.     July 19-20 – Guadalupe River Tubing – Butch and Kay Mikes will be coordinating this outing.  $20 will reserve your spot in the cabins at Jellystone.  Also hoping to include a dive at Spring Lake for those that are certified as scientific divers.  Will need to call ahead if anyone is interested.
  1. vi.     August 30-Sept 1 (Labor Day) – Mammoth Lake and Gulf Oil Rig Dive – Scott Playle indicated that he needs a non-refundable deposit of $150/person if anyone is interested in diving on the boat.  There are two spots left.
  1. vii.     October 4-11 – Curacao – Flyers are in the back with more information.  It is an all-inclusive resort, and a $50 discount
    1. Becky Marak, Senior Board Member:  Becky announced that she sold $512 in merchandise last month at the Fashion Frenzy
    2. Mark Stonebridge, Junior Board Member:
  1. i.     Mark indicated he had collected $42.50 last month for our 50/50 Raffle, along with $1.50 in Rebel non-wear fines.
  1. ii.     This month’s 50/50 drawing is worth $58.50
  1. Old Business:  none
  1. New Business:  Danny Bouska indicated that there were flyers in the back regarding the Trashy Diver contest.
  1. 50/50 Drawing:

Sherrie Hammond won the first drawing elected to take the cash of $58.50

Sherrie Hammond also won the second drawing for the $15 gift certificate to Humperdinks.
