The
Diving Rebels promote the sport of SCUBA diving in a safe and
responsible manner. Programs and guest speakers are provided at
regular meeting to improve member's knowledge of safe diving
techniques and current concerns about the diving community in
general. All diving members must have a nationally recognized
certification as a SCUBA diver. Since the Club membership
includes several instructors and dive masters as well as a high
percentage of advanced open water divers, new divers have plenty
of opportunity to dive with and learn more from experienced
divers. Monthly dive outings are organized for trips to various
Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas lakes, often including games and/or
contest with prizes. Some of the more memorable outings in the
past have been at San Marcos Springs and Lake Travis in Texas,
Lake Ouachita in Arkansas, the underwater Easter egg hunt at
Tyler State Park, our trip to Cozumel and of course our annual Chili Cook off.
A secondary purpose of the Club is
to provide enjoyable social activities for Club members and
their guest. Annual activities include Club picnics, volleyball
matches, a Christmas party, and occasional fund raising
activities for the Club and other worthwhile diving
organizations such as Divers Alert Network (DAN). The Club, an
independent organization, believes safe diving must be practiced
and each year presents to it's members a "Diver of the Year
Award" and "Service Award."
The history of Diving Rebels has
been one full of exciting adventure and safe diving. Formed in
1958, it is the oldest dive club in Texas. The organizers were a
tri-county rescue and salvage team. Since it's start, many
members have helped to give the Club its outstanding reputation
in the diving community. Members have been publicly cited for
feats of lifesaving, and search and recovery work.
Club members are well traveled by
the frequent sightings of our Club T-shirts
in such places as
the Cayman Islands, Virgin Islands, Belize, Bonaire, Cozumel,
Red Sea, trunk Lagoon, and Australia. Members will occasionally
go on ocean dive trips together which makes the trips more fun
and safer when you go with a group of people you already know.
We have wide-spread membership
base in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and therefore meet in the
Arlington area. Though we are a social club, we are serious
about our sport. The Rebels are still going and growing strong
and are constantly looking for new members interested in
promoting the sport of safe yet fun diving.
Dues for membership are $15.00
initiation fee and the $25.00 annual fee. The Annual fee is due
by the thirty-first (31) day of January each year. New members
joining after July 1, will pay only half of the annual fee plus
the initiation fee.
Meetings are held
at J. Gilligan's Restaurant
in Arlington
on the first Wednesday evening of each month, with our social
hour from 6:30 to 7:30 and Club meeting at 7:30.
